One year ago, Pooja and her family were trapped in a cycle of poverty. Her mother struggled to make ends meet by working at nearby farms. Pooja and her sister would wake up at 5 am and walk hours to collect water for their family.
Today, Pooja is attending school rather than walking hours to collect water. A rainwater harvesting tank provides her family with clean water. Her mother is growing wheat and millet for income using water from a Khadin (farming dyke). Pooja’s mother has also planted a kitchen garden for nutrition. As a result, Pooja is no longer falls sick from water borne diseases and is eating more green vegetables. In the past, Pooja could not have imagined that she would be able to go to school. Pooja is determined to make the most of this opportunity and wants to become a doctor.
