9-year-old Vasundhara and 7 year-old Guddi both love school, but are worried and sad because they will have to drop out soon to help their mother to collect water. Vasundhara’s favorite subjects are Hindi and Social Sciences, and she aspires to be a teacher in her community. Guddi loves math and dreams of building and being an engineer.
But thanks to the generous support from Hyatt Family Foundation and The Richa & Atul Aggarwal Foundation, Vasundhara and Guddi will be able to complete their education and pursue their aspirations of becoming a teacher and an engineer!
OneProsper International will build a rainwater harvesting tank with biosand filter for Vasundhara and Guddi’s family. The tank will capture water during the summer monsoon and can be refilled from pond water. This will enable Vasundhara and Guddi to attend school rather than walk long distances to collect water.
Vasundhara and Guddi will each receive a bicycle, schools supplies and tuition to attend school.
Vasundhara and Guddi ’s family will receive training to setup a garden using Khadin cultivation. *
* A Khadin is an earthen bund that contains rainwater within an agricultural area. A khadin is one of the most effective and sustainable methods for promoting crop growth in water-scarce regions.
