Both Rupa and Sunita, who are 18 and 15 years old respectively, had to drop out of school in seventh grade so they could collect water for their family. However, they are both really intelligent and enjoy studying and hope they can continue to pursue their education.

Now, thanks to the generous support of Steve Berezan and the Richa & Atul Aggarwal Foundation, Rupa and Sunita’s family will receive a rainwater harvesting tank and training to setup a garden using the khadin method. As a result, their family will have a healthier diet, and Rupa and Sunita will soon be attending school!

Our Holistic Solution

Clean Water

OneProsper International will build a rainwater harvesting tank with biosand filter for Rupa and Sunita’s family. The tank will capture water during the summer monsoon and can be refilled from pond water. This will enable Rupa and Sunita to attend school rather than walk long distances to collect water.

Rupa and Sunita will each receive a bicycle, schools supplies and tuition to attend school.

Food & Income Generation

Rupa and Sunita’s family will receive training to setup a garden using Khadin cultivation. *

* A Khadin is an earthen bund that contains rainwater within an agricultural area.  A khadin is one of the most effective and sustainable methods for promoting crop growth in water-scarce regions.
