Bhumi is 14 years old. She lives with her mother, father and sister Swaroop who is 10 years old.

As the oldest daughter in the family, Bhumi helps her mother to collect water. She starts her day at 5:00 am and then walks long distances to collect water from the local pond. During the summer months, Bhumi must face hot desert winds and intense heat. The temperature reached 51’ Celsius in 2016 which set a record in India.

Bhumi dropped out of school at grade 8 to help her mother with her chores. Nevertheless, Bhumi still makes time for studying and would like to complete her schooling.

Thanks to the generous support of The Hamlin School and the Richa & Atul Aggarwal Foundation; Bhumi will be able to return to school!

In January 2018, Bhumi’s family will receive a rainwater harvesting tank that will provide their family with clean water. Bhumi will be able to cycle to school and will be provided with school supplies and tuition for school fees. In addition her family will have more nutritious food and income thanks to their vegetable garden.

Now, Bhumi will be able to complete her education which will give Bhumi the opportunity to realize her dreams.

Please stay tuned for updates on Bhumi.
