Nirma’s life has been transformed during the past year. Last year, her mother struggled to support Nirma and her sisters. Nirma’s father had recently passed away in a car accident.
Despite their tender ages, Nirma and her sister would help their mother to collect water by walking miles across the desert. Today, Nirma and her sister are attending school on brand new bicycles. They have new textbooks and school uniforms. Nirma’s family now has clean water year round thanks to their brand new rainwater harvesting tank. Nirma’s mother has planted green vegetables and fruits for nutrition. She is growing wheat and millet for income using water from a Khadin (farming dyke) built perpendicular to the flow of water. During the monsoon, runoff water is directed towards their field which has doubled their crop yields.
Despite their family’s difficult past, Nirma has high aspirations. She dreams of becoming a doctor.
OneProsper ensures that each girl gets the support she needs to attend school. She and her family receive:
- A rainwater harvesting tank
- Training in sustainable farming
- Seeds to grow food and cash crops
- Tuition and school supplies
- A bicycle to take her to and from school
