Pictured: Vimla and Kama along with a friend (orange dress).
13-year-old Vimla and 11-year-old Kama begin their day at dawn, walking several hours to a local pond.
Although Vimla and Kama love studying and attending school, they only are able to do so once they have finished their chores, which means only going to class for a couple of hours.
Thanks to SkyLink Children’s Charity and the Richa & Atul Aggarwal Foundation, these sisters will soon be able to attend school, obtain an education, and eventually support themselves, which is what their mother wants for them. In addition to an education, Vimla and Kama’s family will have a source of clean water and sustainable and nutritious food.
OneProsper International will build a rainwater harvesting tank with biosand filter for Vimla and Kama’s family. The tank will capture water during the summer monsoon and can be refilled from pond water. This will enable Vimla and Kama to attend school rather than walk long distances to collect water.
Vimla and Kama will each receive a bicycle, schools supplies and tuition to attend school.
Vimla and Kama’s family will receive training to setup a garden using Khadin cultivation. *
* A Khadin is an earthen bund that contains rainwater within an agricultural area. A khadin is one of the most effective and sustainable methods for promoting crop growth in water-scarce regions.

A progress update on Vimla & Kama will be available in February 2018.
