About

9-year-old Vasundhara and 7 year-old Guddi both love school, but are worried and sad because they will have to drop out soon to help their mother to collect water. Vasundhara’s favorite subjects are Hindi and Social Sciences, and she aspires to be a teacher in her community. Guddi loves math and dreams of building and being an engineer.

But thanks to the generous support from Hyatt Family Foundation and The Richa & Atul Aggarwal Foundation, Vasundhara and Guddi will be able to complete their education and pursue their aspirations of becoming a teacher and an engineer!

Our Holistic Solution

Clean Water

OneProsper International will build a rainwater harvesting tank with biosand filter for Vasundhara and Guddi’s family. The tank will capture water during the summer monsoon and can be refilled from pond water. This will enable Vasundhara and Guddi to attend school rather than walk long distances to collect water.

Education

Vasundhara and Guddi will each receive a bicycle, schools supplies and tuition to attend school.

Food & Income Generation

Vasundhara and Guddi ’s family will receive training to setup a garden using Khadin cultivation. *

* A Khadin is an earthen bund that contains rainwater within an agricultural area.  A khadin is one of the most effective and sustainable methods for promoting crop growth in water-scarce regions.

    Impact

Pappu Devi is a mother of 2 boys and 2 girls. She says that her and her family’s lives have been transformed during the past one year.

Now, all her kids are attending school, have clean water and she is able to grow a wide variety of vegetables in her own garden! Pappu Devi takes care of the household chores and her husband works in nearby farms. Pappu Devi explains in the past, getting drinking water was a daily struggle. Now her daughters Vasundhara and Guddi are able to attend school on a regular basis thanks to their taanka.

Pappu Devi is now able to generate income for her family and feed her daughters more nutritious food as a result of growing grains, fruits and vegetables in her garden.

Vasundhra’s favourite subject is math and she wants to be a teacher.

Pappu Devi wants her daughters to focus on their studies and then become a Collector which is a very high position in the Indian Administrative Services so that they can change the lives of villagers for the better. Pappu Devi expressed her sincere thanks for all the support that her family has received.

You have the power to change the lives and futures of these girls, their families, and their communities.
