Usha and Nirma, who are 14 and 10 years-old respectively, live in the Mandla Khurd village with their parents and siblings.
Both Usha and Nirma have to walk long distances to collect water and must face hot desert winds and acute heat in the summer. Although Usha and Nirma love studying, they do not currently have the opportunity to attend school.
However thanks to the generous support of Hyatt Family Foundation and The Richa & Atul Aggarwal Foundation, they will both be able to complete their education. And in addition to their education, Usha, Nirma, and their family will be able to have more nutritious food and incomes by growing vegetables using the khadin method.
Usha and Nirma will now be able to complete their education and realize their dreams!
OneProsper International will build a rainwater harvesting tank with biosand filter for Usha and Nirma’s family. The tank will capture water during the summer monsoon and can be refilled from pond water. This will enable Usha and Nirma to attend school rather than walk long distances to collect water.
Usha and Nirma will each receive a bicycle, schools supplies and tuition to attend school.
Usha and Nirma’s family will receive training to setup a garden using Khadin cultivation. *
* A Khadin is an earthen bund that contains rainwater within an agricultural area. A khadin is one of the most effective and sustainable methods for promoting crop growth in water-scarce regions.
