Sukhiya lives with her mother and five siblings, two of which are handicapped. Because her mother stays at home to take care of her children, Sukhiya supports her family by walking several hours each day to collect water.
However, this process hinders her ability to spend time in school.
Thanks to the generous support of donors Rakesh & Sonia Arora and Richa & Atul Aggarwal Foundation Sukhiya’s fortunes are looking brighter.
A rainwater harvesting tank with biosand filter is under construction at Sukhiya’s home. Once completed, Sukhiya will be able to dedicate her full attention towards her education. Sukhiya will also receive a bicycle, school supplies and tuition for school. Her family will also receive training to setup a garden using the khadin method.
Sukhiya loves studying and will now be able to follow her dream of completing school and then pursue college.
OneProsper International will build a rainwater harvesting tank with biosand filter for Sukhiya’s family. The tank will capture water during the summer monsoon and can be refilled from pond water. This will enable Sukhiya to attend school rather than walk long distances to collect water.
Sukhiya will receive a bicycle, schools supplies and tuition to attend school.
Sukhiya’s family will receive training to setup a garden using Khadin cultivation.*
* A Khadin is an earthen bund that contains rainwater within an agricultural area. A khadin is one of the most effective and sustainable methods for promoting crop growth in water-scarce regions.
