Sangeeta, who is 12 years old, helps her mother collect water from a local pond and then with her sister, assists her mother in picking crops.
Sangeeta is unable to attend school regularly due to her time-consuming chores. Her 8-year-old sister, Pintu, will have to follow the same path when she is older. Both Sangeeta and Pintu love school and try to attend school and study as much as possible.
Thanks to donations from Raj & Ruchi Rishi and the Richa & Atul Aggarwal Foundation, Sangeeta and Pintu will soon be attending school rather than walking long distances to collect water. Moreover, their family will have clean water, more nutritious food and additional income.
OneProsper International will build a rainwater harvesting tank with biosand filter for Sangeeta and Pintu’s family. The tank will capture water during the summer monsoon and can be refilled from pond water. This will enable Sangeeta and Pintu to attend school rather than walk long distances to collect water.
Sangeeta and Pintu will receive a bicycle, schools supplies and tuition to attend school.
Sangeeta’s family will receive training to setup a garden using Khadin cultivation. *
* A Khadin is an earthen bund that contains rainwater within an agricultural area. A khadin is one of the most effective and sustainable methods for promoting crop growth in water-scarce regions.

Roshni Devi has fond memories of school during her early childhood – the smell of a new textbook and eagerness to learn new subjects. Unfortunately she had to drop out of school after Grade 5.
Roshni Devi felt sad that her daughters Sangeeta and Pintu had to frequently miss school in order to collect water. But now their lives have been transformed.
Sangeeta and Pintu are attending school regularly on their new bicycles. They both like to study Hindi and have started to teach their mother to read and write. Roshni loves to sit with her daughters while studying. Roshni Devi is very happy that she is able to provide her kids with a better life. She can ensure that all her kids drink clean water, bathes daily and eats more nutritious food.
Sangeeta would like to become a nurse when she grows up.
Roshni Devi is deeply touched and expressed her gratitude to everyone that has helped towards the building of her taanka, garden, school supplies and bicycles. These benefits have brought her family much happiness and hope for realizing a brighter future.
